SANDY'S SUMMARY
After hearing Rebecca O'Dell Townsend's riveting talk on "Our Constitutional Crises" and her discussion of how the Founding Fathers established the country's Constitution so that it could not be easily altered or abused by those who disagree with it, it was so ironic to read that President Obama made the following statement to a TV anchorman when explaining why he deserved another term of office: Our Founders designed a system that makes it more difficult to bring about change than I would like sometimes." Although this President, in his three-year administration, has made many end-runs around the Constitution, it makes one appreciate the one-of-a-kind uniqueness of this precious document and that it has withstood so many attacks by ambitious politicians for all of our country's history.
James Madison said, "Knowledge will forever govern ignorance, and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives" If you are interested in continuing with what Rebecca started you can sign up for a free Hillsdale College Online Course on The Constitution 101. It covers the meaning and history of the Constitution. Hillsdale College was established in 1853 and has been considered a major player in the history and development of American conservatism, particularly over the past 50 years. Hillsdale is among the few non-military colleges in the United States to study the U.S. Constitution as a core requirement. And Hillsdale can be applauded for its refusal of government funding. On a national basis, there has never been a more crucial time in history than 2012. We need to be united and dedicated, as Republicans, to stand behind our national candidates to get them elected. However, in Pinellas County, we also need to be diligent in working for local candidates, as the left is heavily targeting many of them such as Commissioners Neil Brickfield and Nancy Bostock. If you have not signed up as a volunteer in some capacity, either with this club or with the Pinellas Republicans, please call or e-mail me and we will find a place for you.
